A tender loving God who is very near us

We reflect on Psalm 1 today and hear about a tender loving God who is very near to us.  How do we perceive our Heavenly Father?  Do we work really hard for him, expecting a reward?  Do we have a strong sense of guilt about Him?  or, do we know Him as Father who is nearby and tenderly speaks to us?
