Confirmation

Confirmation is a journey centred on young people in years 8-10. Confirmation points us to our baptism, when God made us one of his own people. Confirmation helps encourage and strengthen us in God’s Word to grow in our baptism and to receive God’s blessings. Parents partner with us and their children in talking about life, faith and Jesus on a weekly basis, throughout a two to three term process. Learning is based on the Bible, Luther’s Small Catechism and Growing as God’s People – all done in ways that connect with young people.

We believe Holy Communion is God’s gift that sustains in faith all the way through life.

We know not all people new to St Petri would know what we believe Holy Communion is and does. People are always welcome to contact our pastor for conversations about this any time.

In some of the adult learning opportunities we offer through the year, there is ample opportunity to talk with our pastor about Holy Communion. Please do! He would welcome that.

It is our privilege to invite parents of children aged 9-11 years old to consider working with your child to help them prepare to receive the Lord’s Supper at St Petri.

We understand that admission to Communion has normally been done as part of the Confirmation process at St Petri (around aged 13/14), and so, do not wish to put any pressure on any child or parent to engage in this pre-confirmation admission to Holy Communion.

On the other hand, we invite baptized children of age to be admitted to Holy Communion. We believe that children of this age have the capacity to understand what the Lord’s Supper is, how to approach it and what God gives them in the meal.

We do this learning both in-person and on-line (via Zoom) with parents present encouraging conversation in the group and at home.

First Communion is a process of learning specially designed for older children with participation in the process by parents that normally runs for 6 weeks after school on an agreed day of the week. Some meet-ups are face-to-face, and some are via Zoom. First Communion aims to prepare them for receiving the body and blood of the Lord.

WHEN: Next group begins in Term 3 2026 at a time to be arrived at by the participating families.
